This Feels Like A Legendary Move in Politics

Who would have ever thought that we would have a vice presidential candidate that authored a book titled, Hillbilly Elegy?  This guy, JD Vance grew up in poverty and abuse with a mother who had a drug and man problem.  Like many kids in the South, he was raised primarily by his grandparents.  It should be reflected on how far we as a nation have come to accept this guy as a vice presidential candidate. For example, compared to a politician born into wealth and politics.

Certainly, there are plenty of people who have tuned into this political race since JD Vance was announced as Donald Trump’s running mate.

JD Vance’s book

The book, Hillbilly Elegy came out years ago. In the story, Vance grew up in a tumultuous situation. He was able to better himself and steer clear of the vices of the backwoods south.

I know these vices are not specific to the backwoods or even the south.  The same vices are prevalent in the inner city, the North, everywhere.  While it stands to be something to acknowledge that when a person who is subjected to this way of life is able to overcome such vices. When they are able to make something more of themselves than what their family lineage has looked like in the past.

Addiction is strong and quite frankly something that I do not understand.  The definition of addiction according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is a compulsive, chronic, physiological or psychological need for a habit-forming substance, behavior, or activity having harmful physical, psychological, or social effects and typically causing well-defined symptoms (such as anxiety, irritability, tremors, or nausea) upon withdrawal or abstinencethe state of being addicted.

I am fortunate to not need such vices to manage my everyday life. The ability to comprehend when one chooses drugs over their children or lays out of work due to being inebriated is just not there. This is my sort of privileged life, to not have an addiction. And it is sad to think that not having an addiction is a privilege.

JD Vance’s journey

Evidently, JD Vance has overcome a rough childhood in his life and has make it to the top. That takes some willpower and pure dedication to stay on the path he has chosen. America really is a melting pot of people from all walks of life.

Donald Trump may not win the presidency and JD Vance might not get the chance to serve as vice president, but nonetheless, the sheer fact that he has the opportunity to do such big things coming from such humble beginnings is awesome achievement in its own.

You don’t have to be a fan of the republican party to acknowledge the humble beginnings of JD Vance. This is just my observation of the amazing opportunities that are available in our great nation.
