Has it been almost forever since I have posted a blog? Yes, I am aware. It started as one week, I thought I would catch up the following week. Now I feel as if I have been spiraling out of control. That may fall to the dramatic side of the equation, the spiraling. The important part is I have returned and you all get the fill in from the “lost week” between Christmas and New Year’s. I get back into a routine and we welcome the New Year.
Why does that week between the Christmas holiday and New Year’s feel like a time capsule? I kept seeing memes that were like, no one knows what day it is and no one can remember the last time they had a vegetable. And how accurate is that?

That week consists of Christmas leftovers and just grazing on sweets. I started feeling fluffy, I knew I wasn’t drinking enough water and there were no vegetables in my life. Did I make any changes while having all these feelings? Nope.
The thought was, in time I would get back on schedule, eating life, water consumption. And I have. The life schedule has gone back to normal and all the others fall back into place.
The lost week, in need of routine
In that lost week (I call it a lost week because you feel lost, not knowing the day or what you should be doing) I had the biggest bout of bloat. I did mention that I was fluffy, but I was also terribly bloated. Not the best feeling going into a new year. Maybe that is why so many people use the New Year as a reset/starting point. Because of the overwhelming feeling of garbage from the prior holidays and the need for a solid moment to snap you back to reality. You cannot graze on all the sweet treats and feel good about yourself.
It could have been worse

Thankfully I did not have severe gas or cramping. Usually, I get that from one of my “trigger foods”. Like, the one time I had severe gas and cramping from celery. Yes, you heard that right, celery. Not a sweet treat, not chocolate cake. I was munching on celery. It just has that crisp crunch and fresh taste, I do really enjoy it. But I do not indulge anymore. I have ruled it out of my diet.
So my “lost week” bloat wasn’t severe like the celery time or the time with the ranch dressing. But it was a week of uncomfortable distended belly. The every morning diarrhea was still present in my life. And I believe I only had two “emergency” side-of-the-road situations. Those were both in the very early morning while traveling, so I feel as if they just coincided with the morning shits.
Come to think back on it, I did have a mid-day hurry-up pullover moment. We were traveling down the west coast of Florida, in the Mexico Beach area, just looking at the sights. My stomach had been absolutely fine. That is part that I still cannot understand. How I can be fine one minute then all of a sudden I NEED a bathroom pronto?
It starts with gas
If at some point in the day, I start having some gas, it will be followed with an urgent need to get to a bathroom. I always think, if I just hold the gas in will that prevent the signal that is sent to the bowel for the release? Honestly, I am not even sure I could hold the gas in. That in itself sounds painful. Sounds like some sort of internal combustion.
Back on track, there is the routine I need
The being in a routine is necessary for my functioning. Routine for me is not necessarily getting up at the same time and doing the same things every day it is the things within the day. Get enough water in, some daily movement and for the most part, a clean diet, and I am set to go. Have tasks scheduled for the day that I can check off my list as I complete them.
Do you have a “routine” that you like to follow?
Did you have any “lost week” episodes?
