Do you know the saying that time flies when you are having fun? Well, I must be having fun because the time has flown by. It has been a year since I started the Gut Feelings blog. You can read my first blog post here. At the start, I did not envision what a year out would look like but my main plan was to make a space to share embarrassing stories and the ups and downs of living with IBS. I am still here sharing all of my life’s struggles, from quitting a job, losing friends, having a hard time finding a job, and going back to school as an adult. Here’s to the Gut Feelings blog anniversary!
Happy blog one-year anniversary to the Gut Feelings blog!
I dare to say, I believe my bowels are in a better space than a year ago. But I also dare to say that I think my head is in a better space than a year ago. Does time heal the wounds or do you learn how to manage the feelings?
I have not had a complete side-of-the-road emergency stop in a few months. For those of you who don’t know what a side-of-the-road emergency stop would be, it is I am about to shit my pants and whoever is driving must pull over immediately. Like, now. There’s no time for a gas station up the road, just now. There is an unbelievable urgency to go.
Those stops were happening quite often, looking back on the blog, you might say every weekend. I don’t want to put a jinx on myself but they are better. Less.
There are times I wake in the morning and have multiple bowel movements. And I still have the water shits, but not every day. Some days I am impressed with my bowels. If you look at the Bristol Stool chart, I am still at the diarrhea end of things but I have days where maybe I am a #5. That is a pat on the back when I am generally at a #7.

I am still taking the Metamucil fiber gummies. I truly believe they have helped. The nausea and bloat don’t happen as often as before the gummy consumption. And I don’t know if I mentioned this before but I really like the taste of the gummies. I want to eat them like they are candy. My Dad, who recommended I try the gummies, doesn’t like the taste of them. He said he takes them because they help his digestion but he has to force himself to eat them. I think they taste like orange gummy candy and could eat them all day long.
Tricks of the trade
Another thing about my beloved Metamucil Fiber Gummies, I had read all reviews everywhere and so many people were complaining about how the gummies get stuck in the bottom of the bottle and they have to bang the bottle on a counter or use a fork to reach down in the bottle to retrieve a gummy. They do get stuck in the bottle, those reviews are not wrong, and I have a simple solution. Store the bottle upside down. Lightbulb moment! You uncap the lid and the gummies are stuck in the mouth of the bottle right there ready for the taking! And yeah, I take the Walmart brand. I started with the Metamucil brand but the Walmart brand is comparatively cheaper, and is doing the same great job, so here we are. Saving money like I like to do.

For those of you who have stopped in and checked out my little space in the big ole world of the internet, I appreciate it – Thank you! And if my stories have made you feel like you have a poop friend or a shit story buddy, and are no longer alone in the world of the shits, then I am SO glad you are here! If you have tried the Metamucil Fiber gummies and they have helped you, let me know, and leave me a message. I would love to connect with you all! And again Happy Blog Anniversary to Gut Feelings.blog! We have made it a year, ya’ll come follow along!
