PSA to FBMP sellers

A Way to be Profitable on Facebook Marketplace

Sometimes you need to send out a PSA.  Yep, a public service announcement.  I am sending one out to all the people who post a classified ad on Facebook Marketplace and DO NOT turn on their notifications. You cannot sell your item if you are not replying to your messages. Check your messages. Turn on your notifications! You too can be profitable if you reply to your messages!

Time and time again I have messaged a person selling an item on Facebook marketplace and never get a reply. Often if you do get a reply it will be a something such as, can you come tomorrow? You reply Yes! What time? And then tomorrow comes and goes.

I spend time thinking on this. Not like lots of time, but down time when I am driving or something like that.  What is going on as to why when one has an item listed for sale they don’t check messages or when they do check messages – you can see when the message has been viewed, why do they not reply?

I get that life gets in the way. Something pops up that takes precedence over fbmp, then the message just sits there read and unanswered.  But not everyone is having a life emergency every time I message about an item.  And I am not one of those who is sending the automatic message of “is this still available”.  I write a new message that sounds like it came from an actual human. But really what is even going on?

Why do you read it then leave

Do you not want to sell the item?  Maybe you bought it and your husband doesn’t approve of your purchase and he says you have to sell it. Hmmm. Now I am thinking. He says list it on Facebook Marketplace to try to recoup some of the money you spent. You list it to placate the husband while ignoring the messages because you don’t really want to sell it, then just tell the husband no one was interested so you get to keep it.

Could that be it Facebook Marketplace

Here is a scenario, a guy, going by the name of Master, has light fixtures that were hanging in his house. The story goes, that he had new ones installed so he has listed the old ones.  First the listing went up for sale for $30.  I saw the listing, liked the lights and saved it.   A few weeks later he changed the post to free. I messaged him, because who doesn’t like free? Waited. Waited. Six days in waiting, he reads the message, no reply. I message again that I would like to come by for the lights. He reads that message. No reply. Then the ad gets changed. He is now asking $100 for the lights.

I can only guess that he had a lot of hits on his free posting that he felt like he could make some money. Even though, knowing that no one bought those weeks ago at a lesser price, he increases the price and relists them. What? I don’t understand, but I will keep watching.

Not my screenshot, but totally my frustration

What about a woman with some barstools I would like to buy. I message Friday morning that I would like to buy the barstools, and that I can come anytime today. No reply. No read. No nothing. Saturday morning she says can you come today? No, I can not, I am out of town. Can we do it Monday? Yes, Monday works for her. I have got her replying so thinking we could pin down a time and place for Monday, I ask what time would work best for her on Monday? If she would give me a time and address I would be there then on Monday. Crickets. She’s gone. Monday, comes and goes.

I understand if an item sells before I get there. I don’t expect people to hold an item for a complete stranger who might never show up. But, you don’t COMMUNICATE! Let’s communicate. Lets try it.

All I am asking for is communication

Dear sellers of Facebook Marketplace,

Please turn on your message notifications.

Please check your messages.

Please don’t list an item that you don’t really want to sell.

COMMUNICATE!

Warm Regards,

A buyer of Facebook Marketplace
