America

The big American Event is upon us, Independence Day!

How is July already?  I believe I ask this question with the change of every month.  But really half the year is gone. We are about to be celebrating the American holiday of Independence Day.  This day/weekend consists of time spent sitting outside, in the shade, or in the water, eating hotdogs and flying an American flag.

Independence day, American flags are flying

Florida Summer

Mid-summer in Florida brings afternoon rains and those aggravating hurricanes.  A few weeks ago I mentioned being in drought conditions.  Well, that has changed all within a week.  Which is a blessing.  The grass is starting to grow at a rate where it needs to be cut once a week and all the brown spots (due to the drought) are beginning to grow back in.

line drying laundry

When I wash laundry I prefer to line dry it.  Saves on the electric bill not having to use the dryer.  The dryer uses heat and generating heat is an expensive thing. And a real truth, I love to see the laundry blowing in the breeze, it brings a calming feeling. But right now I feel like I am doing a laundry dance of sorts, dancing around the rains trying to get this laundry to dry. To me it is worth it, saving money while having a peaceful line of laundry blowing in mother natures breeze.

IBS and Independence Day foods

On the IBS home front, symptoms have been mild.  There was some bloat and I linked that to the new pasta salad recipe that I tried.  The pasta salad was excellent and used all the items that I usually eat and do not have any problems with, but for some reason mixed together, they gave me a bit of troubles.

I ate the pasta salad with a hamburger lunch on Saturday, and immediately bloated.  I wasn’t sure if it was the hamburger or the pasta salad.  Later in the evening, I revisited the pasta salad for dinner and that didn’t make things any better. UGH. Total bloat, and total disregard for my guts. All in the name of pasta salad.  I am a sucker for pasta salad.

I am standing with my convictions regarding the Metamucil fiber gummies.  Things have really changed since I have been in the habit of taking them in the morning and at night. I have even switched to the generic version, because you know I like to save money, and they seem to be equivalent to the name brand Metamucil.

Occasionally I get some indigestion or heartburn feeling with something I eat and the bloat from this past weekend, but that has been the gist of symptoms for the most part.  I still have the daily diarrhea, but that has not been an urgent, emergency situation.

With that being said, after about one and a half months of taking the fiber supplements I am in a much better IBS place. 10 out of 10 recommend giving them a try if you suffer from daily diarrhea, nausea, bloat, and gas.

Upon the start of taking them, it was bad.  I took too many to begin with and caused a lot of cramping and discomfort. The directions do say something along the lines of it is worse before it gets better.  That was true. I dialed my dosage back and stuck with it and look at me now! I still have an eye on my trigger foods and try not to indulge in ALL the sweets, so I am not footloose and fancy-free. But I am so much better.
