chocolate chip cookie dough

I have reached the lowest point so far

Who would have thought the lowest point of this journey would involve chocolate chip cookie dough. But here we are. I am crying tears into my tub of unbaked cookies.

Who doesn’t love chocolate chip cookies? And chocolate chip cookie dough? Even better. Way better. The upside of a chocolate chip cookie is the dough. But the world tells you not to eat it. I know it is because of the raw egg and you can get salmonella from raw eggs.

Could it be salmonella

Symptoms from a salmonella infection can include diarrhea, fever, chills and abdominal pain.  Wonder if you have to check all the boxes?  Have all four symptoms to consider it an infection? I had two. And how quick is the onset?   https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/salmonella/symptoms-causes/syc-20355329 . If you don’t want to read the overview, it is 8 to 72 hours after exposure.

My onset happened quicker, four hours. Somewhere from midafternoon to dinner time.  And for the record, I am pretty sure it wasn’t salmonella. It was an IBS flare.  This makes things worse.  I mean don’t get me wrong, salmonella would be a pretty bad diagnosis, but now have to put chocolate chip cookie dough on my list of trigger foods. I think my life just ended.

The song of a siren

The pain was bad, so bad. I don’t want to ever go through that experience again. Wish I could blame someone, maybe that would make it not so embarrassing. But, I did this. It was the copious amounts of chocolate chip cookie dough consumed throughout the afternoon.  I was working on projects and the cookie dough was in the refrigerator calling my name. Like a siren song calls to a sailor.  There I was drawn back and back and back to the cookie dough.

The pain was so excruciating that I didn’t even want to shower but I knew that it would make me feel somewhat better.  I immediately went to bed after my shower.  The Christmas lights were left on all night, my phone didn’t get plugged in to charge, but nothing mattered, I was seeking relief.  This time instead of the cookie dough the siren song was my bed.

The only way I could find a little relief is the fetal position or laying on my stomach but more to the left side, that helps tremendously.  I feel like it eases the discomfort of the bloat and allows the gas to escape.  I slept like a rock. The Christmas lights could have caught the house on fire and I think I would have slept through it.  I woke up in a much better place.  The bloat and nausea had passed. But now the elephant in the room of the heartbreak of that cookie dough sitting in the refrigerator.

I would dare to say the problem was the amount of cookie dough that I ate.  Taking a little time off, I promise I won’t go back for a while and when I do I will pace myself.  There was a similar problem in the past with celery but that was easy to quit cold turkey.  Chocolate chip cookie dough is different.

Has anyone has a similar problem with something so delicious?

What did you do to get past it?

Does the lying on the left side of your body help you?
